Treatment Phases
Orthodontic treatment may occur in several phases. This process is sometimes known as “two-phase treatment.” For more information on two-phase treatment in Keller, Texas, and to make your appointment with Dr. Robert Montoya, please call Montoya Orthodontics today at 817-427-2237.
Phase 1
Phase one treatment usually occurs between the ages of 7 and 9. It can take 12-18 months, and generally involves the use of orthodontic appliances to ensure that erupting teeth have the space to grow properly, minimizing the need for extensive treatments at a later stage.
Maintenance Phase
During this period of time, your child will be monitored to ensure that their teeth and jaws continue to grow and develop correctly.
Phase 2
If the second phase of orthodontic treatment is required after all the permanent teeth have erupted, your child will be provided with braces or a similar treatment to correct misaligned teeth and continue helping your child’s teeth and jaws achieve a healthy position. Treatment in this phase takes 12-24 months to complete on average.
Full Treatment
If you decide not to seek early treatment, your child’s full orthodontic treatment will begin after all his or her permanent teeth erupt. Full treatment usually takes 18-30 months, depending on the severity of his or her orthodontic problems.
