If you are aligning your smile with Invisalign®, then it’s important to keep your aligner in tip-top shape. This is because there is a good chance you can suffer orthodontic and even dental consequences if you fail to take good care of your aligner. So, to help you keep your aligner in a pristine and functional condition, our orthodontist, Dr. Robert Montoya, has the instructions you need.
-Rinse your aligner every time you take it out of your mouth, like when you eat or when you brush your teeth. As you rinse, use warm (not hot) water to wash the bacteria, plaque, and food particles away.
-Soak your aligner regularly to deeply clean it. You can soak it in the specialized cleaning crystals or even with denture cleaner.
-Brush your aligner when you brush your teeth. As you clean it, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and clear, antibacterial soap. This can help you remove the plaque and bacteria that have gathered on the appliance throughout the day. Be careful not to brush too hard.
-Clean your teeth by brushing and flossing regularly throughout the day, like after each time you eat. This is important because if you don’t, dental issues could develop. This is because the aligner traps food particles and bacteria over your teeth, encouraging cavities and other problems to occur.
